Insurance fraud is a criminal offense under Article 642 of the Italian Penal Code. The law defines it as follows: “Anyone who, in order to obtain for themselves or others an insurance indemnity or any benefit deriving from an insurance contract, destroys, disperses, damages, or conceals property they own, or falsifies or alters an insurance policy or the documentation required to enter into an insurance contract, shall be punished with imprisonment from one to five years.”
